Engineer's Map Room

The Engineer's Map Room is located in the County Courthouse in downtown Chillicothe at 4 North Paint Street. To get to the office one should enter the northernmost entry, go through the airlock, and back the hallway to a down flight of stairs.

Paula Miller is the supervisor of the activities in that department.

Normally, there are parking spots in a public lot reached by going west in the alley between the courthouse and law enforcement/jail complex or by entering off West Second Street.

The County Engineer is charged by the Ohio Revised Code with maintaining property map records for all properties in the county, but what is available there goes far beyond just those extremely important records.

The Map Room is home to property maps, plat maps, county aerials, and many other types of maps and records, some of which date back to before the founding of Ross County August 20, 1798, five years before Ohio received statehood in 1803.

Original research on many properties from this portion of the old Northwest Territory starts right here in Ross County between the Engineer's Map Room, the Recorder's Office and the Probate Court Archives.

The three member staff, Paula Miller, Supervisor, Melinda Oney, and Patrick Morrissey, brings many years of experience in the field to the work . They are not only experienced, but also extremely knowledgeable and accommodating when working with the public requesting any information or help.

Coinciding with the balance of the courthouse offices, their hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
